Komodo Airport is 3 km from Labuan Bajo town. The journey takes 10 to 15 minutes. There are several ways to make it, ranging from your hotel’s complimentary transfer to a negotiated taxi. Here is what is available and how to use each option.
Who This Is For
Anyone arriving at Komodo Airport for the first time who wants to get into town without stress or overpaying.
Option 1: Hotel Complimentary Transfer
Many hotels in Labuan Bajo include a complimentary airport transfer for guests. Casa de Capulet is one of them. Your driver will be waiting at arrivals with your name on a sign. This is the most effortless option and costs you nothing.
To use it, message the hotel your flight number and estimated arrival time before you travel. WhatsApp is usually the most reliable channel. Your driver will track the flight and be there when you land.
Option 2: Pre-Arranged Private Transfer
If your hotel does not include a transfer or you are arriving outside normal check-in hours, a pre-arranged private car is the next best option. Your hotel can arrange this for you, or you can book through a tour operator in advance. Expect to pay IDR 50,000 to IDR 100,000 for a private car into town.
Option 3: Waiting Taxis at the Airport
A small number of taxis wait outside the arrivals exit. The ride into town takes 10 to 15 minutes. Negotiate the fare before getting in. IDR 60,000 to IDR 80,000 is a reasonable price for the run into the town centre. More at night or during peak season.
Option 4: App-Based Transport
Grab and Gojek both operate in Labuan Bajo. Coverage and driver availability vary, particularly during peak season. If you have a local SIM card and the app installed, these can be a convenient option for the airport run at rates comparable to negotiated taxis.
The best time to use apps is when the airport is quiet. During peak arrival times when multiple flights land at once, app drivers can be harder to find quickly.
Option 5: Ojek (Motorbike Taxi)
The cheapest and fastest option for solo travellers with minimal luggage. Usually around IDR 20,000 to IDR 35,000 into town. Not practical with a large bag and not ideal at night if you are unfamiliar with the roads.
What Is Not Available at Komodo Airport
There is no car rental desk at Komodo Airport. Self-drive car hire in Labuan Bajo is limited and not available as a standard airport collection option. If you need a vehicle for the full trip, arrange this through your hotel before you arrive.
Getting to the Airport on Departure
The same options apply for your departure. Hotel transfer, pre-arranged car, or app-based taxi. Arrive at the airport at least 90 minutes before your domestic flight. During peak season, allow longer, check-in queues can move slowly when multiple flights are boarding at the same time.
