Most international visitors to Indonesia — including Labuan Bajo — do not need to arrange a visa before they travel. Citizens of 97 countries can get a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at Komodo Airport when they land. It takes about 10 minutes and costs IDR 500,000 (roughly USD 35). That is the short answer.

Visa on Arrival (VOA)
Citizens of 97 countries — including Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, most of the EU, Canada, and New Zealand — are eligible for a Visa on Arrival. It is available at Komodo Airport (LBJ) and all major Indonesian international entry points.
What you need:
- A passport valid for at least 6 months from your arrival date
- Proof of onward or return travel (a flight booking or itinerary)
- IDR 500,000 in cash or a card for payment (card payment is now accepted at most entry points, but carry cash as a backup)
What you get:
- 30 days in Indonesia, extendable once for a further 30 days (60 days total)
The VOA counter at Komodo Airport is just before passport control. Join the queue, pay, and your stamp is issued on the spot.
eVisa (Apply Before You Travel)
You can also apply for an eVisa online before departure at evisa.imigrasi.go.id. The cost and entitlements are the same as the VOA (30 days, extendable to 60). Benefits include faster processing at arrival and avoiding queues — useful during high season when arrivals at major airports can back up.
Payment is by Visa, Mastercard, or JCB. Apply at least a few days before departure.
Visa-Free Entry
Citizens of ASEAN member nations, Timor Leste, Suriname, Colombia, Hong Kong, Turkiye, and Brazil currently receive visa-free entry. Check the official Indonesian immigration website for the current list as this is subject to change.
The All Indonesia Digital Declaration (From September 2025)
From 1 September 2025, all international travellers entering Indonesia must complete the All Indonesia Digital Declaration before arrival. This is a single online form that integrates immigration, customs, and health declarations. Complete it at allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id. It is straightforward and takes around 5 minutes.
Do not skip this — it is now mandatory, and completing it ahead of time speeds up your arrival considerably.
Extending Your Stay Beyond 30 Days
You can extend your VOA for a further 30 days (for a total of 60 days) by visiting an Indonesian immigration office. From May 2025, extensions must be done in person — online extension is no longer available. The nearest immigration office to Labuan Bajo is in town. Ask your accommodation for directions or assistance.
What Indonesia Does Not Accept
Indonesia does not accept emergency passports. Your passport must be a standard travel document valid for 6 months or more from your arrival date.
